This is the true beauty of the Carlson Boatworks 25. The
feel and look of carefully sculpted wood is an amazing accomplishment that will
be admired by everyone. The complex boat design is made of an extensive matrix
of individual pieces brought together into one robust structure. With over 500
individual pieces of wood in the structure assembly, one might wonder if it is
too complicated and why it is not made in a mold out of fiberglass resin. True
to the Mission Statement of Carlson Boatworks, this design speaks to the
ultimate performance for the owners and occupants of the boat, measured in
completely tangible quality. Hand inspecting every one of these many pieces
assures the total quality of every square inch of the final product. The
structure is built around a floating frame design that creates an efficient
skeleton, eliminating hard spots in the hull. This design spreads the wave
impact energy out across the boat rather than focusing it directly on the
immediate frame member, thus reducing the jolts and bounces that are then
transferred to the occupants. One of the largest contributors to the strength
of a boat is the outer skin that surrounds the internal structure. Using three
layers of material installed in opposing directions creates a matrix structure
as capable as the finest fiberglass hulls, but of a material that accomplishes
the special requirements necessary for the refined ride found only in a wooden
boat.
